Art can make you believe things about yourself that you didn’t even think you had the capacity to imagine let alone believe. Some dive head first into books, movies, plays, and so on. -Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy all of the above. However, I’ve come to revel in that the visual arts has the ability to change the way you view your own reality in just the stroke of a brush, contour of clay, or the expansion of pixels.
The mind, the heart, the will all begins to churn a bit differently than normal. Its familiarly unknown- like looking at yourself in the mirror for the first time all day after forgetting to look in the mirror at all. “Do I really look like that?…Hmm, I don’t even know what to… Damn.” But what is more startling is that you begin to recall exactly how organically pleasant it was to not care about the ego mirror-check at all. Much like a kid who puts on the ensemble readily available to them and hits the front door ready to make a personal playground of the world. Art -reminds you to play.
